Duke Law School professor Erwin Chemerinsky will speak on Judicial Selection, Independence and Ethics. This program offers attendees the opportunity to join with members of the Tennessee Judicial Conference and hear from a top national expert on a topic of interest to all Tennessee lawyers.

Lawyers serving Tennessee for 125 years
Take a walk through Tennessee legal history. Learn more about the great legacy of our state, the colorful figures in Tennessee law and their lasting impact on the profession and our society. Follow the progress of African Americans and women. Remember triumphant moments of the civil rights movement and re-live Tennessee’s decisive contribution to women’s suffrage.

This program with Senator Roy Herron, Carl Pierce, Pam Reeves and others will combine a presentation of legal milestones in Tennessee, the history of the Tennessee Bar Association, and anecdotes about historical incidents and figures, with an emphasis on how lawyers as professionals have used their training to improve the lives of the citizens of Tennessee. The discussion will cover judicial decisions, legislative acts and gubernatorial actions. All of these presenters have an extensive knowledge of influential figures and incidents in Tennessee legal history and will share anecdotes and humorous stories to liven the presentation.

Join Jackie Dixon, President of the Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women, along with an expert panel of practitioners who have considerable experience in both civil and family law mediation for a comprehensive discussion on mediation.

This program will cover the nuts and bolts of how to prepare your case for mediation. Examples from several substantive areas of law will be presented. This presentation will be helpful to any attorney who is representing a party in mediation.

to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure — Update
Be on the cutting edge! Get the most up-to-date information on electronic discovery and the new amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. This seminar will cover what you want to know about the new rules, including a factual discussion of all of the amendments to the Federal Rules, practical considerations and the landmark cases that precipitated the changes in the Rules.
The presentation will include discussion of the ethical obligations of attorneys to preserve and produce electronic information with focus on such topics as Forms of Production, Reasonable Accessibility, Cost Shifting, Inadvertent Production, and “Safe Harbor” Sanctions. In addition, there will be an in-depth discussion of the practical considerations in accessing, preserving, producing and requesting electronic information including methods for obtaining electronic information.

Construction lien law seminar
Navigate the perilous waters of construction lien law safely! Perhaps no area of Tennessee’s law is more fraught with traps and technicalities than mechanics and materialmans liens on real property and real property improvements. That is all about to change. The new Tennessee Construction Lien Law making its way through the General Assembly takes a comprehensive approach to clarifying and enhancing the administration and enforcement of construction liens in Tennessee. Under this law, the entire contract price is lienable, liens on undelivered specially fabricated materials are permitted, categories for prime and remote contractor are established, statutory forms of notice are specified, and the enforcement of liens is improved.

Providing Pro Bono Services After a Disaster
This one-hour CLE will provide an overview of how volunteer legal services are coordinated within the state following a disaster, tips for responding to inquiries for legal assistance and a question and answer time with lawyers who have extensive disaster pro bono experience. Speakers include private bar and legal aid attorneys as well as authors of a new publication produced by the TBA Young Lawyers Division that guides volunteer attorneys through the most common issues facing disaster victims. Attendees will receive a copy of this Disaster Assistance Manual, which unlike other resources, specifically addresses Tennessee law and practice.
